About the Challenge

Civic engagement starts with a single action, and this is your chance to lead one. The Challenger seeks a Superhero to dedicate a minimum of 5 hours to empowering students through academic support and guidance. This challenge focuses on bridging the gap in learning, whether it’s tutoring K-12 students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or other school subjects, or providing high-level mentorship to students in a university setting. Activities could include helping with homework, coaching for exams, guiding a student through college or career applications, or leading specialized academic workshops. The goal is to foster academic success through confidence and curiosity in the next generation of learners.

The Challenger pledges a $250 donation to an education-related charity, such as Khan Academy (or another appropriate organization chosen by the Superhero). The Superhero must provide verifiable proof of their 5 hours of service. We request that Charity Challenge game administrators or creators verify the activity details and the chosen charity to ensure alignment with this educational mission.

SuperHero Reflection Notes

Empowering Future Scientists

I had the privilege of completing my service hours by hosting high school students from across the country in our laboratory for a summer volunteering and internship program. These bright young minds immersed themselves in the world of biomedical research, moving beyond textbooks to learn hands-on laboratory techniques.

The journey wasn't just about technical mastery. Every week, I tasked the students with presenting their progress, a "soft skill" exercise designed to boost their professional communication and confidence. Seeing their transformation from curious observers to confident presenters was a mutually enriching experience. Our lab’s mission is built on empowerment, innovation, and leadership, and there is no better way to live those values than by equipping these students with the tools to tackle society's future challenges.

Impact & The Pay-It-Forward Pledge

Witnessing the enthusiasm and dedication of these volunteers reinforced my belief in the power of accessible education. Whether it is in a high-tech lab or a digital classroom, giving students the resources to succeed is how we shape the future.

To honor the hard work of these students and the importance of academic support, I am directing the $250 donation to Khan Academy. Their mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere, perfectly mirrors the spirit of empowerment we strive for in our own lab (www.prasannalab.org).
