About the Challenge

The Challenger is calling for a kind-hearted SuperHero to devote a minimum of 5 hours toward meaningful service that supports the wellbeing of animals and strengthens the human–animal bond.

This challenge is about empathy, responsibility, and compassion for the creatures who depend on us. The SuperHero may choose from a wide range of impactful activities, such as:

  • -Volunteering at an animal shelter or humane society, caring for animals, cleaning kennels, walking dogs, or socializing cats.
  • -Assisting at a wildlife rehabilitation or rescue center, helping rehabilitators provide safe recovery for injured wildlife.
  • -Supporting a therapeutic riding or equine-assisted program, where horses help special assistance individuals.
  • -Participating in animal-assisted therapy or visitation programs at hospitals, senior centers, or nursing homes, bringing comfort and joy to vulnerable populations.

To complete the challenge, the SuperHero must submit verifiable proof of their 5+ hours of compassionate service, such as photos, videos, email confirmation letters, or logs to the Charity Challenge creators/administrators for review and verification. The Challenger pledges a $200 donation to an animal-related charity selected by the SuperHero, empowering the Hero to support the cause they care about most.

Together, let’s give back to the animals who bring so much unconditional love into our world.

SuperHero Reflection Notes

If a therapy session is the vehicle for healing, the therapy animal is the engine that drives it forward. Thank you (PawFriend) for inspiring me to focus my service on maintaining that powerful engine of compassion!

I chose to complete my service hours with Special Equestrians, organization that facilitates therapeutic horse riding for people with special needs. My dedication was directed toward the foundational care of their four-legged healers. I volunteered my time as a feeder for the horses, ensuring the equine partners who are essential to the therapeutic process were well-nourished and ready for their vital work. This role offered a unique perspective on the dedication required behind the scenes to keep such an important service running. I've attached photos showcasing the beautiful horses I had the honor of caring for.

Impact & The Pay-It-Forward Pledge: Serving in this capacity deepened my appreciation for the human-animal bond, especially since I have a pet dog at home who provides daily comfort. Witnessing the careful coordination and effort required to support both the animals and the riders taught me profound lessons in service, compassion, and team effort. Inspired by the success of animal-assisted therapy, I suggest the $200 donation be directed to Hand in Paw, a wonderful organization that utilizes therapy dogs to bring comfort and healing to patients in medical facilities. It's a privilege to contribute to a cause where animals make such a monumental difference.
