About the Challenge
Need a dedicated Superhero to serve as a mentor and companion to younger kids (age 6-13) who are recovering from a medical procedure or living with a medical disability. This challenge is rooted in mentorship, aiming to provide positive interaction, build confidence, and ensure the kids feel supported.
The Superhero must complete a minimum of 2-3 verifiable mentorship sessions, focusing either on teaching/playing light tennis or another approved, structured mentoring activity of the Superhero's choosing. The Challenger pledges a donation of up to $250 to a mentoring-related charity organization chosen by the Superhero. Proof of time and activity, along with any testimonials regarding the positive impact on the mentee, will be required for verification.
SuperHero Reflection Notes
In the world of tennis, a "service" is usually the way you start a point to win a match. But this challenge taught me that the most powerful service happens when the goal isn't a trophy, but a connection.
I dedicated my time to providing companionship and mentorship to a wonderful young person with a disability through the game of tennis. For years, I’ve honed my skills for the sake of competition and professional matches, but hitting the ball across the net this time felt entirely different.
It was deeply satisfying to realize that these skills have a purpose far beyond the scoreboard. Watching the joy and confidence grow with every volley reminded me that sports aren't just about winning, they are a universal language of empowerment. While I cannot share photos of my partner on the court out of respect for their privacy, the impact of our time together is something I'll carry with me into every future match.
To continue this momentum of support, I am directing the $200 donation to United Ability in Birmingham, AL. Their commitment to providing innovative services for people with disabilities ensures that everyone has the chance to live a life without limits.
